Planning is key

Planning is a key component of student life. There is a marked difference between students who plan ahead and the ones who don’t.

Planning helps you to live an organised existence. It enables you to structure your educational, work and personal life: thereby balancing the need to complete coursework, whilst remaining in control of day-to-day events. Student life is a learning curve which teaches you how to prioritise, set goals and targets, and forces you to manage your time better. All of these additional benefits and skills are required for a successful career and/or aids in the pursuit of further or higher education.

Whilst studying, the most important task is planning. Plan ahead: set aside time to study, read and for assignment completion. Effective planning will ensure you meet your deadlines, hopefully with minimal stress.

Choose the best planning resource that works best for you; either an online or paper-based, physical planner. Start off each week by planning ahead. Set aside time in your plan for both academic and recreational elements too.  You need to incorporate some self-love and reward for the hard work and achievements throughout your student life.

Personally, I love paper. I like to write, scribble and doodle. As a visual learner, I need to see things in colour, diagrams and pictures. By physically writing things down, I automatically take ownership, retain the information and am then able to visualize things better and get to grips with what needs to be done.

The benefit of planning ahead

·     Allows time to obtain academic help and support early on

·     You remain on top of your workload and adhere to deadlines

·     It allows you to work on other things and is therefore time-saving

·     Structure builds confidence and leads to a sense of achievement

·     You are able to meet deadlines in advance, minimising stress levels

·     Your ability to manage your schedule well will motivate your peers

·     The stress-relieving benefits enhance your general wellbeing
